The SponBIODIV consortium met between 4–8th of November 2024 for its mid-term meeting of in Heraklion, Crete in hybrid format, where all partners from the consortium met to discuss achieved results as well as plan future steps. During a the three day meetings we had over 20 presentations from all partner institutions on topics ranging from biodiversity, genomics, monitoring and conservation of sponges and sponge-dominated habitats. The consortium also held a stakeholder meeting with representatives from several Atlantic and Mediterranean agencies (e.g. IUCN, RAC/SPA, WWF) to discuss on tools and actions to be developed or taken during the project to ensure sponge are considered for conservation, protection and restoration actions. Finally, we took this opportunity to brainstorm and work together on several synthesis publications to be published during the following years.
